Maqbara Samarqand shahrining janubiy-g’arbiy qismida joylashgan bo’lib, O’rta Osiyo me’morchiligining noyob me’moriy obidasi sifatida e’tirof etilgan. Maqbara qurilishi buyuk Sohibqiron Amir Temur tomonidan 1403 yilda boshlanib, saltanatni Mirzo Ulug’bek idora qilgan davrda nihoyasiga yetkazilgan. Muhammad Sulton 1403-yilda Kichik Osiyoga bo’lgan harbiy yurish vaqtida to`satdan kasallikdan vafot etgan. Shaxzodaning jasadi Samarqandga olib kelinib, ansamblning janub tomonidagi ayvoni orqasidagi dahmaga dafn qilinadi. So’ng Amir Temur shahzodaga atab maqbara qurish haqida farmon beradi. Shundan keyin dahma ustiga sakkizyoqli bino quriladi.
